Dr. Wesley Tourangeau

Wesley Tourangeau, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Windsor. His research interests include agricultural and environmental laws, policies, and regulations; farm animal welfare; animal and environmental harms; climate change activism; and relations of power and influence across these topics. He adopts a theoretically informed approach to exploring the complex systems of laws, policies, regulations, discourses, and practices that influence interactions between humans, non-human animals, and the natural environment. He has published his research in peer-reviewed journals such as Critical Criminology, the Journal of Rural Studies, and Crime, Media, Culture. Currently, he is leading a research project (with Co-Investigator, Dr. Amy Fitzgerald) funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) that evaluates Canada’s farm animal welfare standards to find leverage points for mitigating harms.
