Matthew Liebman

Matthew Liebman is the endowed chair of the Justice For Animals Program and a tenured professor at the University of San Francisco School of Law. Matthew has published in leading law journals on how the legal system can recognize and respect the rights of nonhumans. His scholarship explores socio-legal, ethical, jurisprudential, and doctrinal issues in animal law. Matthew's writing has appeared in the Wake Forest Law Review, Maryland Law Review, the Minnesota Law Review, Ecology Law Quarterly, the Animal Law Review, the Stanford Environmental Law Journal, and the Journal of Animal Law.  Before becoming a professor, Matthew was a litigator for 12 years with the Animal Legal Defense Fund, including three years as the organization’s director of litigation. His utopia features lots of vegan baked goods, DIY punk shows, and multispecies hang-outs.
