After completing a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto, Sandra obtained her law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and was called to the Bar in 1980. From 1993 until her retirement at the end of 2016, Sandra practised with Schnurr Kirsh Schnurr Oelbaum Tator LLP, one of Canada's leading firms in estate litigation and mental
capacity litigation. Following her retirement, Sandra has become increasingly involved in animal advocacy, initially through traditional legal processes. She has pursued both civil litigation and private criminal prosecution in efforts to combat animal cruelty. More recently, she has turned to non-violent direct action, particularly against the notorious Ridglan Farms, a facility in Wisconsin that bred beagles for animal experimentation. That facility has now been shut down largely due to the efforts of activists. Sandra’s participation in the 2026 rescue campaigns at Ridglan Farms profoundly shaped her views on animal advocacy and the role of direct action in confronting institutional cruelty.
