Shephali Gupta
Law Student
Lincoln Alexander School of Law
Shephali Gupta is a first-year JD candidate at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law, Toronto Metropolitan University, with a passion for animal law, environmental law, and Indigenous law. Driven by a belief that the legal system must expand who it protects, she founded an animal rights club, “The Animalists Club” in high school, a commitment that has carried through to her role as 1L representative of the Lincoln Alexander Animal Justice Club. Her research explores how Indigenous legal traditions can challenge the classification of animals as property and expand their legal status under Canadian law. She volunteers with Level Justice’s Indigenous Youth Outreach Program and holds a BA (Honours) in French Studies from York University, bringing trilingual skills in English, French, and Hindi to her legal work.
